This place is really good Thai food. It's a little small so big parties may need to call for a reservation or be prepared to wait. Their curry dishes are especially good. My friend likes the Panang Curry Duck and I like the Prawns with Curry Lobster Sauce. Also be sure to save room for the mango with sticky rice dessert. A little pricey for the food, but it's the price you pay for eating in La Jolla.

The presentation of portions are both impressive. in fact, we were able to get by on three appetizers between two people. I'm fairly picky when it comes to Thai food, and this was pretty good stuff. I'd look forward to exploring more of their menu another time.

Just finished my leftovers from last night and once again I was impressed. I love the ambiance on the patio and food is excellent. I love the sauces, spice and well basically everything. I'm so greatful that this place is only a hop, skip and a jump from my house. I don't know what I would do without you!

this is the only place i go regularly in la jolla (i work in la jolla). it's cheap for the area, they give you a lot of food, and it's all pretty delicious. i come here mainly for lunch (the lunch specials come with curry puffs and salad/soup), but when my company pays, i go all out (my fave is the red duck curry on the specials and the mango stick rice... and the fried coconut? balls). i mainly stick to the regulars - pad thai, red curry.

I've been to this place twice. Pretty good ! Especially the duck curry which is my favorite. However, all the dishes that I tried were quite delicious. The ambiance is pretty cool as well.

My boyfriend and I really enjoy Spice & Rice. This was the first time I had Thai food and I think a great place to start. We like the outdoor dining and the food is good too. I enjoy the Prawn with Curry Lobster Sauce and the Coconut Shrimp. The Spicy Chili Halibut is good too. My boyfriend always gets the Pad-Thai with Chicken. For appetizers we like the Crispy Calamari and Steamed Mussels. Dessert is good too. The Mango Sticky Rice is okay (Saffron is better) and we've enjoyed a few of their seasonal delights. A great date place.

This is a wonderful, reasonably priced Thai place with great food! The outside seating is very romantic, but can also work for young kids who like to wander around. The Thai rice with chicken is delicious. I got the prawns with curry and was really suprised at the number of shrimp included for $16. The appetizers can get expensive, but overall, it's worth it!

The Red curry here is out of this world. The pad thai is also excellent. Spicy basil noodles also a fan favorite. Food and service are great. One of my favorite restaurants. If you have a sweet tooth, try their mango and sticky rice.

I think its more 3.5 than 4 but I'll round up. Spice & Rice is located in downtown La Jolla so parking can be an issue around dinner time. The prices are a bit high for a Thai restaurant but pretty low for La Jolla standards. Food is only okay, smaller portions than most restaurants but the quality was decent. I went with a group of four and we got the Tom Yum soup, two curries, and spicy basil noodles. Nothing was over the top delicious and we all left a little hungry. I have to agree with the other reviewers, the patio seems like the place to be when the weather is warm enough.

The food was excellent, especially considering the price and location (in La Jolla). We are vegetarians, and they were up front with us on what items contained fish sauce or shrimp paste. Most places do not do that, unless you specifically ask them about those ingredients. Service was friendly, and the Woon Sun was delicious! Try the coconut cream custard for dessert, it is unlike any dessert I have had at other Thai restaurants, not too sweet and very tasty (if you like Coconut, that is).
